Protect Your iPod, iPhone, Touch and All Devices

If you own an iPhone or iPod you probably would like to keep it in shiny like new condition, maybe just like the day you bought it. You could keep it locked in a drawer and not use it to accomplish this or you could find a case to put it in. A nice leather case doesn’t protect the front of the screen of the iPod or iPhone from being scratched or gunked up with sticky stuff like my fingers after a snack.

You will eventually scratch the screen and it will never be the same again. It is more difficult to clean things off of as you have to be careful what you use.  These screens are not replaceable!

There is one product on the market today that is exceptionally clear and virtually indestructible. It is a film that will protect your iPhone or iPod and keep it in like new condition. This product  is a patented film that covers and shields your device, and keeps it in its like new condition, same as the day you bought it. You can get complete coverage including the front, back, and sides of your device or just purchase the front cover if you keep your device in a case.

This precision invisibleSHIELD for the iPhone
applies directly to your iphone or iPod and provides the most durable protection on the market. This product was designed and used as a film to protect our military high speed helicopter blades from dirt, dust and other debris.

This invisibleShield is only .2 millimeters thick or thin as it really is. It is by far the thinnest cover for the iPhone or iPod on the market. It is made so tough that the manufacturer gives you a lifetime warranty. If it ever does scratch or wear out they will replace it for free! If you want to remove it for any reason it comes off easy and leaves no sticky residue to clean off.

The invisibleShield should be a “must have” for all owners of an iPhone or iPod. You never know, as down the road you may want to sell it and upgrade to the newest, latest model and it will be easy with a protected phone that looks like it just came out of the box.

How To Authorize A Computer For iTunes

One of the most asked questions and forgotten tasks has to be how to Authorize a computer for iTunes to play protected DRM music downloaded from the Apple iTunes store.

When you authorize one of your computers you are helping to protect the copyright of the music, or movie content you have purchased. If you buy copy protected music from the iTunes store, also known as DRM,  which stands for Digital Rights Management, you are allowed to play them on up to 5 different computers which can be all Mac or Pc or a mix of both. If you have songs you have loaded say from your own CDs or downloaded songs from iTunes Plus they do not need to be authorized, you are free to do whatever or play these songs on as many computers as you choose.

To authorize one of your computers to play these certain copy protected songs, you select  the song or songs and you can first try to play it and if it won’t play you will get a message window saying you are not authorized to play this song on this computer blah blah blah and then asking you if you want to authorize this song to play on this computer. You will then be prompted for your Apple ID and Password which hopefully you have written down somewhere. Enter the correct information and click authorize and you should be able to play your song or songs on that computer. I selected all my purchased music with the select all key and then authorized all my purchased music for that computer and then I was done. You should be able to do the same.

If you have more than one account that you purchased songs from and you try to authorize all songs you may get a message stating this or that song wasn’t purchased under this account so you’ll have to enter the correct account name you used to purchase the song to authorize this song or album. Yes this is a pain and I would recommend not purchasing these type of protected files and go buy the iTunes plus and you own these songs just like purchasing a CD unless you want to save a few dollars here and there.

How To Delete Songs From iPhone

Hey iPhone users

I would like to share another way, a sort of short cut to help you delete a song or songs or a playlist from your iPhone. There are several ways to do this and I’ll be referring to the 3G for most details however it should be similar on the new GS and maybe earlier iPhones depending on the software loaded but we’ll be giving instructions using the iPhone 3G.

As you most likely know by now as you have made an attempt to get rid of a song or all your music on your iPhone that you can’t do it without connecting to your computers iTunes. This may be a way of protecting your music so it can’t be accidentally erased. Sounds good to me, protection.

So you must next find your cable that links your iPhone to your computer and hook it up. Once that is done you should see iTunes open up or you may have to click on the software to open, depending on your preference setting. Once iTunes opens you should look at the full menu on the left with the categories and what’s in them underneath. The main one at the top should be LIBRARY, then STORE beneath that and then the one you need is DEVICES. Click on the iPhone logo which also has a little iPhone icon as well as showing a plug which means you are connected. Under this Devices you’ll see music, movies, TV shows, Ringtones, and then your music playlists. Leaving the iPhone icon highlighted or selected, look at the top of the window and you’ll see Summary and a whole bunch of folder type categories like Info, Applications, Ringtones, Music ect.  Select Summary and you should get the window with a pic of iPhone at top with the Version and then Options under that. There should be a check box next to Manually manage music and videos and you need to check that box and then click apply to save at lower bottom of page.

Now right below your iPhone icon in the left hand column under Devices again select the Music. Now you should see all the songs on your iPhone to the right with check boxes next to each song. You can just select one song or a bunch of songs randomly, while holding down the Apple key to select the songs you want to delete and then hit the delete key of your keyboard. You can also use the shift key to select a whole group in a row and then also press the delete key on your keyboard to remove these songs. This will erase the songs on your iPhone and as it does your iPhone will light up till it finishes the task. You can also select the playlist from under Music in Devices section and get rid of the entire playlist and add another by choosing the autofill at bottom of page.

There are other ways to remove music and they are all related to this chain of events. By leaving the Manually manage music and videos selected on your summary page this allows you to easily edit your music manually without editing your playlist directly.

Removing Songs from iPhone 3G

Hey I wanted to pass along another way to remove songs from iPhone 3G. First connect your iPhone to your computer and iTunes should open then highlight or select the iphone on the left menu under devices and you will get the menu for iTunes and select Summary. Make sure you have checked Manually manage music and videos and sync only check songs and videos. Deselect the other two options unless you’d like to encrypt iphone backup. Now Select the Music menu and select the selected playlists, artists, and genres. This will allow more manual control over everything.

Now you see your playlists that are included on your iphone and highlight the one you’d like to edit. You should then see all the songs in that playlist and to delete a song just highlight it and press delete key on keyboard. You should see your iPhone light up and say sync in progress as it erases the song from the playlist. It will not remove the song from your iTunes Library. Wow isn’t that nice to hear unless you did it the wrong way and have your Music catagory selected in the top menu of your iTunes. Be sure you have the Device selected.

To add songs to the iPhone just go up to the main Music category in iTunes and select the song or highlight it and drag it to the playlist on the iPhone under device section and it copies it to that playlist. You should see the iPhone light up saying it is syncing. Well it won’t talk to you but the screen will light up.  It’s that easy, or maybe hard the first time but gets easier once you do it again. :)

How to Setup Your iPhone for imap Mail

Hey There,

Let me mention before trying this change you should save all your email on your computer or other device. You don’t want to lose any important mail. Backup anything you don’t want to lose just in case.

Do you have multiple devices like your iPhone, Main home computer and maybe a Laptop too where you would like to view your email but then lose it ’cause you couldn’t remember which device you read the email on and it doesn’t show up on the other devices? Chances are you are setup like most people to use pop email accounts.

There is a way to set things up so your mail gets to which ever computer/device you decide to sit down with and it will download to that particular device as well as your others.  If you are like me I want to view my email while at work on my iphone and when I get home I sit at the big screen computer and sometimes I’d forward email from my iphone to myself so I could open it up on the big screen computer or laptop.

I’ve needed a way to make the mail show up on all devices but put off doing so thinking it may cause problems or I’d lose some important mail in doing so. Finally I got up the courage to get this done and I want to share it with you so you don’t have to go thru what I did and not have mail for 4 days on my iPhone.

I’m going to try to keep the process straight forward and please understand that your email provider may be different than the one I am describing but I’ll try to keep it general on what you have to do to make this all work.

1) First you must sign on to your web site host account where you need to get access to your account email settings. An example is using a gmail account. It should be similar for other email clients but you will get an idea of what and where you need to make the changes. While you are signed in look or do search for setting up email accounts. You will need incoming and outgoing server names. For instance gmail is imap.gmail.com for incoming, and smtp.gmail.com for outgoing. Go ahead and write this info down as you will need it for your new iphone settings. This above info is for gmail accounts only, yours will be different if not a gmail account.

2) So you’ve logged in to your account and have found your email settings. There you want to navigate to something that refers to pop/imap settings and also may contain forwarding option as with the gmail account. Click on the forwarding pop/imap setting and then you will get a window showing some options for pop email and imap email. You want to disable the pop setting and enable the imap setting and click save. You want to accomplish the same thing if you have a different email client. Once this is set then you will move on to the next step in the process.

3} Ok now you will need to redo your iphone account email for this same address only this time it needs to be set to receive imap mail and the iPhones default is to set up for clients using pop email. You can leave the existing email account alone and add a new one. Even when it prompts you for say a gmail account in the beginning you don’t choose the gmail logo, you will want to choose "other" and manually set up an account just for imap email.

4) More specific directions. On your iPhone tap Settings, then tap mail ect. Then add account then you must select "Other" at the bottom and don’t select the Gmail logo that is one of the above choices. Then select add mail account. Next will pop up a new window and you must fill in the name of you the user, address as in full email address, the password for this account and in the description, you can pick any nickname you’d like. Click SAVE!

Next window is very important! It will ask you the name of the incoming server host name. Remember you wrote this down earlier when you visited your site hopefully. :)

Fill in host name exactly like you copied correctly from your site. then fill in your full email address (user name) and password as before. Then click SAVE!

Then you should be taken to a new window. This will read outgoing mail server and this is where you want to enter your email clients outgoing info exactly like you copied. Then proceed to fill in your user name which again is your full email address and password and then don’t forget to click SAVE! Now you can go in and delete the original account which is pop. A new batch of email should be downloaded into your phone and will require a bit of editing. If you could set this up from the beginning it is a lot less work.

Ok, I didn’t say this was exactly a short project but it is well worth it once it’s all done correctly. You will want to email yourself from another account to make sure everything is working.

One more thing, you must go to your other devices ie laptop or big screen main computer and change this account to imap mail too. Usually that requires either editing existing incoming and outgoing servers and saving this change. I would suggest doing one at a time but remember that unless your email program allows you to set an individual in and out going server for that one account you may have trouble sending mail as it may select the pop server as the outgoing server and your email won’t work and you will get confused and frustrated like I did. This mainly applies to more than one email address from the same mail client.

Good luck and remember to save any important email before starting just in case. :)

Another iPod Shuffle Tip

Do you know if you have the latest software installed in your shuffle?

To find out first hookup your shuffle and then select it  in the sourcelist/ device column of iTunes. Then in the main window where it shows all your songs you should see at the top of the window a tab showing either Contents or Settings. Click settings and you should see at the top iPod with Name information, Capacity, Software Version, and Serial number. Below that you should see Version which will tell you if your shuffles software is up to date. If you are experiencing problems with your iPod you can restore its original settings by clicking on the Restore button. Note that all your songs will be erased so make sure you have them backed up in your itunes library so you can restore the music after restoring your software in the shuffle.

More iPod Shuffle Tips

Ever have trouble with your shuffle not showing up in the iTunes sourcelist column below the library and store categories? Sometimes you need to change the port where your shuffle is connected. You may have to plug directly into a usb port in your computer or laptop and not from your keyboard or hub. Another way to get a quick fix is to restart your computer and sometimes this automatically corrects your connection problem.

New 3G iPhones due in July

The New iPhones will be out July 11th and there are some new great features along with the new lower prices. The new 8GB model will sell for an incredibly low price of $199 and the 16GB model at $299.

Turns out that AT+T will help pay for the new phone by making up the difference with Apple for us so that we will sign up for the monthly service needed to use all the cool features of the iPhone. All I can say is thanks AT+T and it’s time to sign up.

New 3G iPhones offer greater speed and  a faster connection to the net and email over networks around the world. New High speed downlink packet access works twice as fast on 3G networks as on 2G edge networks. The iPhone switches between Edge, faster 4G and faster Wi-Fi so you get the best speeds at your disposal.
You can also amazingly talk on the phone while surfing the web, checkin your email or using maps. You get up to 5 hours of talk time over 3G networks.

iPhone 3G meets the worldwide standards for cellular communications, so you can make calls and surf the web from practically anywhere on the planet. And if you’re in an area without a 3G network, iPhone connects you via GSM for calls and EDGE for data.

Apple Reduces Price of iPod Shuffle!

Good news for everyone, Apple has cut the price of the popular iPod Shuffle by a whopping 38 percent. The 1 gig model will now sell for a reasonable $49, reducing the shuffle from $79. They also introduced a new model which is double the storage, yes now a 2 gig! And the great news is it is cheaper than the previous 1 gig pricetag, yes only $69.

The shuffle is just a must have for anyone on the go that wants to listen to music or an audio book and takes up no room in your pocket when not using. Works flawlessly within your iTunes software. which is a free download from Apple. Just a must have as I need to add it to my collection along with the 1 gig model. No word on the release date of the new model, just that it’s coming soon! Stay tuned.
