How to Download iTunes
iTunes is THE program to use with your iPod. It’s designed to integrate your computer and iPod in a way no other program can come close to. Using it to load music and files into your pod is almost too simple.
It also has a built-in browser that takes you directly to the iTunes store. When you buy something there or choose a free file, it’s automatically downloaded to your computer and into your iTunes program.
Best of all, it’s FREE.
Macintosh computers come preloaded with iTunes. Windows users can download it here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
From this webpage, you’ll always be offered the latest version of iTunes. This page also shows you the minimum requirements that your computer will need to run this program. If you have an old computer, use this webpage to be sure it’s compatible with the iTunes program.
- Choose the operating system your computer uses - Windows or Mac.
- Enter your email address.
- Opt-in or out of Apple’s offers.
- Click on the ‘Download’ button.
Ok, you Mac users can stop laughing now. I know iTunes comes preloaded in Macs. But, if your hard drive crashes or your files become corrupted, you can get a fresh copy here.
Pay attention to where the download was put on your computer.
Navigate to that file:
- iTunesSetup.exe for Windows
- iTunes.dmg for Macs
On some computers, you’ll need administrative permission to install software. Be sure you have that figured out before you begin installation.
- Windows users: double-click on the file. It will install itself.
- Mac users: double-click on the file and drop it into your Applications folder
Open iTunes and create an account at the iTunes Store even if you don’t intend to buy any music right now. At some point you’ll either buy for yourself of use it to buy a gift certificate for someone else. Apple is very secure with your information and they won’t charge you for anything unless you actually buy something.
Next thing to do is to create an iTunes Store account.
