Deactivate Old iPod before using new one?
If you are buying a new iPod and are worried about deactivating the old one before you can use the new one, here are the facts you may want to know.
The copy protection rules set by Apple allow for your downloaded music from the iTunes store to be stored and played on an unlimited number of iPods.
There is no deactivation needed on iPods but the copy protected songs and video rules do apply to your home computer or laptop. You are allowed up to 5 computers to view and playback your downloaded copy protected music or videos. If you are selling or retiring one of your computers then you would go to the store menu in your iTunes software and deauthorize that machine. If you don’t have 5 computers that you play your music on then don’t worry about this.
You can use iTunes and iPods without buying copy protected material or restrict your music and videos to the ones you copied or bought legally from CDs or DVDs.
